How to camouflage acne with makeup

As a middle-school aged gal I began my first struggles with acne. It was embarrassing so my mom started letting me wear foundation and blush to cover up the little red bumps and blemishes all over my face. Unfortunately, we were a little less educated about the dangers of putting harsh cosmetics on our face when I was in 6th grade, so little did my mom or I know that the more I covered the worse it actually got.zap and hide

Fast forward 15 years and I was still having the same struggles. It’s embarrassing as a teenager, but acne is even more frustrating as an adult. Thankfully a few years ago I started working at this amazing company and within a few months of wearing jane iredalemy acne began to heal. Some people say, “maybe you should have stopped wearing makeup altogether” but what they don’t understand is that I didn’t want to leave the house without my “face” because I felt so terrible; now the only reason I wear foundation is for the SPF and to even my skin tone. I genuinely don’t believe “not wearing makeup” was the answer, I believe it was the amazing ingredients in jane iredale makeup that really helped to clear my skin. I know that I am one of the lucky ones, and many of us need more help than just a cleaner makeup with healing properties to rid our acne, but the makeup made a huge difference for me. It did take about two months for my skin to begin clearing, so during that time I needed a lot of help camouflaging my acne. Here is what I did, I hope it helps you as well!

  1. Apply a thin layer of Absence Oil Control Primer using the Foundation Brush. By thin,Absence

I mean VERY thin – if you can see it go on, you are using too much and will actually cause you to get even more oily. A little bit goes a long way.

  2. Using the Handi Brush, applyPurePressed Base in your shade to your entire face. I liked to put two “coats” of powder on during this step, but you may prefer one.
  3. With the Camouflage Brush, applyDisappear concealer to any very red areas and let the concealer dry. You may alsouse the hide end of Zap&HideConcealer instead.Disappear
  4. After the concealer is dry repeat with a second layer of concealer, if necessary, and be sure to “feather” the edges so there isn’t a stark contrast between the concealed area and the rest of your skin.
  5. Lightly spray your skin with Balance Hydration Spray, this will help set the minerals without adding excess oil to your skin.

If you don’t have heavy redness but have slightly discolored blemishes, you can replace steps 3 & 4 and simply rub your Flocked Sponge into your PurePressed Base and then gently press it to the area that needs to be concealed and roll it off, ta-da blemish gone! This is my favorite camouflage technique and I still use it whenever I have some discoloration or redness on my face.

If you have very oily skin feel free to finish your look with PureMatte Finish Powder and carry Blotting Papers in your purse in case you need to absorb any excess oil that may appear throughout the day.

blotting paperNow that you’ve camouflaged your acne using PurePressed Base, be sure to go back through and add some color using blush or bronzer. My favorite is Whisper PurePressed Blush because it has a touch of shimmer which is great for distracting from any little bumps.

Refinery 29 calls Éminence a “Cult Classic”

In an article titled “Your End-Of-Summer Skin Savior” Refinery 29 highlighted Eminence’s  Seven Herb Treatment – with honorable mention to some of their other products as well.

They had a hard time picking their favorite Éminence product so they asked celebrity facialist Joanna Vargas, and she named the Eminence Seven Herb Treatment.

“It’s not one of their sexy, new products — in fact, it’s been around as long as the company has,” says Vargas. “I love it, because it’s both hydrating and healing, so I can use it on dull, dry skin at the end of summer, and it’s great for acne as well.”

Click here to read the rest of the article.

We at the Green Spa totally agree!  We have been using the Seven Herb Treatment in our facials for years.  Guests love it and they can also use it at home.  Read more about this amazing product here!

Our Skincare ROCKS!

KISS Band Members Using Éminence!

Eminence President and Founder, Boldijarre Koronczay, met the band members of KISS on their recent tour, and gifted them several products!

The rockstars are now using the Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant, Bamboo Firming Fluid and of course, the Herbal Eye Makeup Remover.

We hope these will help them rock and roll all night…and party every day!  Rock on with Eminence Skincare!

And, the Emmy goes to….

The Green Spa has chosen our top red carpet head turner, Emily Deschanel.

Emily is the only star to rock all vegan attire at The Emmy’s. The “Bones” actress wore wore a custom Houghton gown and custom vegan dyeable peep-toe Aldo pumps. If Emily came to the Green Spa, we’d give her our very own organic red carpet treatment. We think Emily’s silver lace style would pop with SpaRitual’s Limited Edition Polish in ‘Lacquer Hugs’. For skincare prep we’d make Emily’s skin rival the glow, beauty, and power of a West Coast sunset with our organic ‘Intense Glow’ treatment. Her luscious lips would pair nicely with the fall lip shades of Jane Iredale‘s Lip Fixation in ‘Mania’. And, what about the most important part? The lashes! After we’d completed her facial, manicure and pedicure, we’d have our Extreme Lash expert Jumana, who was written about in Emily’s sister’s magazine Hello Giggles, give her natural looking minx lash extensions.

Because she’s promoting vegan wellness, we’d have to send her away with a red carpet must-have: Eminence Organic Sun Defense in Peaches and Cream. In addition to having broad spectrum SPF, it’s an amazing matte powder that outlasts heat and keeps you from looking shiny when everyone else around you does. Congratulations Emily, for you are our vegan beauty of the week!

Fall Make-up TIPS from:

Fall is bursting at the seams this year with fun new makeup trends. From colorful cat eyes to wine lips, the makeup this season is anything but boring. Here are a few of the fall runway trends that you can recreate in a wearable way (and not a smoky eye in the bunch!).

1. Wine lips

One of the most wearable trends for fall 2013 is wine lips. From Vera Wang to Fendi this trend was one of the most noticeable of all makeup trends at fashion week. If you are someone who loves to accentuate your lips you may choose to stick with the bolder version. You can create a deep matte wine lip by first lining and filling in your lips using the Terra Cotta Lip Definer, then applying NEW Hannah PureMoist Lipstick.

WINE LIPSIf you are looking for a sheerer version of the wine lip try applying NEW Mary Lipstick.

4. Bold lips

The bold lip trend was around for spring and it isn’t going anywhere this fall. When creating this look be sure to keep your eyes a more neutral color. Sticking with soft colors like Champagne Silk Eye Gloss, the Daytime Eye Shadow KitgoWarm Eye Steppes orSweet Spot Eye Shadow Triple, will help keep the focus on your lips even if you are more conservative with your lip color choices. The great thing about lip stick is that you can take one from a sheerer splash of color to a deep pop of color by just adding a Lip Definer.

Here is a list of some of our favorite “splash of color” Lipsticks and the Lip Definer you can pair with them for a more bold pop of color look.

Lucy: A creamy matte, pink peony lipstick. Pair with Pink Lip Definer for a bold pink lip.

Hannah: A creamy matte, brown plum lipstick. Pair with Terra Cotta Lip Definer for a deep wine lip.

Annette: A creamy matte, red grape lipstick. Pair with Plum Lip Definer for a deep purple/red lip.

Margi: A creamy matte, true red lipstick. Pair with Crimson Lip Definer for a bright red lip.

Melody: A creamy pale, peach lipstick. Pair with Peach Lip Definer for a tangerine lip.

Lauren: A creamy matte, copper lipstick. Pair with Sienna for a copper penny lip.

3. The colorful cat eye

Colorful cat eyeFrom Jason Wu to Christian Dior we saw this bright colored cat eye all over the runway at fashion week. Bold and daring, it brings a fun jolt of color to a fall outfit in more muted shades. This cat eye is achieved by choosing a bright colored liner and applying a thick line to your top lashes, extending to the middle of your eyelid or up to your crease, and then outward slightly to create a winged cat eye. As fun as this look is for the runway, it isn’t as practical for the office. Try this modification for a softer but still on-trend look:

soft cat eyeStart by applying Allure Eye Shadow to your eyelid using the Deluxe Shader Brush. ApplyDawn Eye Shadow in your crease using the Crease Brush. Line your top lash line withAquamarine Mystikol using the Angle Definer Brush and slightly extend the line outward to make a winged cat eye. Apply PureLash Extender & Conditioner to your lashes followed by Black Ice Longest Lash Mascara.

You are still getting a bold shot of color on your eyes and working the colorful cat eye trend, but you are doing so in a much softer, sophisticated way that is appropriate for both day and night.

4. Orange Shimmer Eyes

orange shimmer eyeshadowNeutral makeup was a huge trend for spring, but designers like BCBG and Givenchy took it up a notch for fall with orange shimmer eye shadow at the forefront for fall 2013. While shades of orange and red are beautiful for popping blue and green eyes, the bold look of orange eye shadow may be a little much for your everyday look. Here’s an easy alternative:

Rose gold eyesTry applying Rose Gold Eye Shadow to your eyelid and crease using the Deluxe Shader Brush. Line your top lash line with the Black/Brown Eye Pencil and finish with PureLash Extender & Conditioner followed by Espresso Longest Lash Mascara. This soft alternative still offers a bit of shimmer and is a lovely color choice for blue and green eyes.

5. Beautiful Skin

Beautiful soft skin is always in, no matter what the season. However, this change in season often brings colder temperatures, dryer skin and the desire for a little more coverage. No worries, we have the answer! If you’re not using it already, Smooth Affair Facial Primer is a lovely addition to your skin care and makeup routine in the cooler months. This primer has anti-aging properties that even skin tone, minimize pores, increase luminosity and moisturize; it can also help to keep your makeup lasting longer. Follow your Smooth Affair Application with Glow Time Full Coverage BB Cream. Glow Time covers blemishes, minimizes pores, disguises wrinkles and smooths and brightens skin. A little goes a very long way so start with a pea size amount and add more if you need it. It delivers that luminous-matte finish that is so big this fall.
