How To Detox Your Body Naturally

They say when you look good, you feel good – but that old adage works the other way around too. You’ll find that when you clear out your mind and body, you’re usually glowing on the outside as well. Here are 4 ways that you can detox your body this spring and look divine doing it:

Drink your goodness

Ditch the alcohol and processed sugar, and pump your body full of fruit, veggies and fibre instead. Here’s our favorite recipe for a detox smoothie that will jumpstart a pure life:

2 bananas
½ cup frozen berries
2T hemp protein powder
1 handful of spinach
1 peeled kiwi
2 cups almond milk
1 T flax seed oil

Choose all organic ingredients if available. Combine in the blender using both blend and liquefy functions. Enjoy!

Detox your brain

Getting forty winks isn’t just essential as beauty sleep, research shows that sleep actually removes waste products from the brain. A recent study in 2012 discovered a previously unrecognized system, now called the “glymphatic system”, which actually drains toxins from the brain while you snooze. Make sure you hit the pillow for your full eight hours and wake up to a refreshed brain which has been literally detoxified (Medical News Today).

Purify your skin

Pollution, dirt and oil clog our pores daily so it’s essential to remove these layers of impurities from our complexion. Detoxification ingredients, like charcoal and thermal mud, pull oil and dirt out of the skin and leave a pure look to the skin’s surface.  Here are two treatments that we recommend for purification:

Balancing Masque Duo: The key ingredient in the Charcoal T-Zone Purifier draws out dirt, oil and sebum in this revitalizing masque. Need a truly deep clean? This is the treatment that absorbs impurities and lifts them straight out of your skin.

Hungarian Herbal Mud Treatment: Enriched with thermal mud, this treatment opens pores, extracts grime and increases circulation. Toxin elimination leaves the skin looking healthier and smoother.

Sweat it out

Although modern science is still undecided about the benefits of detoxification through sweating, the process has been used throughout history and around the world in Scandinavian saunas, Turkish baths and Aboriginal sweat lodges as well as other cultures. In addition, the Journal of Environmental and Public Health noted: “Sweat-inducing sauna use might provide a therapeutic method to increase elimination of toxic trace metals.” That’s enough encouragement for us to experiment in detoxing via sweat – especially if said experiment involves relaxing in a steam bath (

3 Celebrities Who Are Incredible Dads

eminence dadsIn addition to being successful actors, philanthropists and all around handsome heartthrobs – what else do Channing TatumMark Ruffalo and Hugh Jackman have in common? They’re all great dads. From watching their children’s soccer games to attending parent-teacher meetings, these three celeb dads share the same responsibilities as many other fathers around the world. And, like all great fathers, they do their very best to be positive role models so that they can raise happy, healthy and well-behaved kids.

In celebration of all of the superstar dads out there (not just the famous ones) we thought we’d share how Channing, Mark and Hugh balance their careers, personal life and fatherhood – and still keep looking better with age.

As a famous actor, dancer and the Sexiest Man Alive (according to People Magazine 2012) – it sounds like Channing Tatum has a lot going on. However, if we had the opportunity to ask him what his greatest accomplishment in life would be – we have no doubt that it would be being a father to his daughter Everly (born May 31, 2013).

What makes him a great role model?

Channing is continually active with his charity work, supporting cancer and AIDS & HIV research as well as advocating for the environment. In 2012, Channing and his wife Jenna were nominated as a “Do Something Couple of the Year” by Do Something, a nonprofit that encourages young people to give back to their communities (Huffington Post).

What makes him a superstar dad?

Even as a new dad – Channing is already shaping up to be a pretty amazing one. In a number of interviews, he reinforces the fact that he has high hopes for his baby daughter and will continue to encourage her to follow her dreams and become the person she wants to be.

I don’t want to be a controlling father,” said Channing Tatum in an interview with Independent UK “You have to let them live, you have to let them grow…I want her to have a grounded, beautiful life.”I don’t want to be a controlling father,” said Channing Tatum in an interview with Independent UK “You have to let them live, you have to let them grow…I want her to have a grounded, beautiful life.”

What’s his secret to looking so good?

We can’t take credit for his genetics, muscular frame or athletic physique – but we’d like to think we can take some credit for his great skin. Channing recently received a facial from our President,Boldijarre Koronczaywhere he enjoyed a variety of our products including our Stone Crop line (Stone Crop Body LotionStone Crop Gel Wash & Stone Crop Hydrating Mist) our Blueberry Detox Firming PeelBamboo Firming FluidFacial Recovery OilMonoi Age Corrective Night Cream for Face and Neck, and our Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant.

I’m a husband, father, actor, director, and a climate change advocate with an eye on a better, brighter, cleaner, more hopeful future for all of us.Most recently known for his return role as Bruce Banner (The Incredible Hulk) in Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, this famous dad (and Academy Award nominee) doesn’t simply identify himself as a successful actor. According to Mark’s Twitter profile -“ I’m a husband, father, actor, director, and a climate change advocate with an eye on a better, brighter, cleaner, more hopeful future for all of us.

What makes him a great role model?

Mark is a huge environmental activist and puts a lot of his passion and resources towards advocating for clean, sustainable and renewable energy solutions. To add to his earth-friendly resume, Mark recently launched Water Defense, a nonprofit that takes on fracking and other extreme or unconventional methods of energy extraction (

What makes him a superstar dad?

As a father of three children, Mark and his wife (actress Sunrise Coigney) recently moved their family from hectic L.A to a remote area of upstate New York in order to give their children a more laid back and private life (Men’s Journal). His children are also his biggest fans. In an interview with ET, Mark commented that his teen son has been dealing with “major Hulk fandom”: “My son’s hair is dyed green right now,” Ruffalo explained. “His clothes are green, his hair is green. I’d like to think it was because of me.”

What’s his secret to looking so good?

So what do Mark Ruffalo and Éminence have in common? Green values (yes, pun intended for the Hulk actor). As a nature-lover and environmental activist, Mark chooses our products including our Stone Crop line (Stone Crop Gel WashStone Crop Moisturizer) which keeps his skin bright, hydrated, and revitalized after long hours of filming and parenting.

Most of you know him from his long-running role as the lethal “Wolverine” in the X-Men films, but Australian-born actor, producer, and singer Hugh Jackman also chooses roles that show his gentler side. For those of you that have seen Hugh as the courageous and protective father-figure, Jean Valjean in Les Misérables – it’s easy to see how this real-life father has a natural parental instinct on- and off-set.

What makes him a great role model:

In addition to his successful acting career, Hugh supports a number of charities and is also co-founder of Laughing Man Worldwide – a not-for-profit organization which helps entrepreneurs in developing countries around the world start their own businesses. 100% of Laughing Man Worldwide’s revenue goes back to education, community development and new business development.

What makes him a superstar dad:

This down-to-earth dad knows how to embrace the simple things in life. When it comes to vacationing with the kids, Hugh opts for camping trips. For him, simply spending time with his family is the “best thing in the world.” (

The things that I really cherish are the everyday moments, like sitting around cooking pancakes together on Sunday morning, or getting home after a tough day and my kids come up and give me a hug and remind me what’s really importantAccording to Hugh – “The things that I really cherish are the everyday moments, like sitting around cooking pancakes together on Sunday morning, or getting home after a tough day and my kids come up and give me a hug and remind me what’s really important” (IMDb).

What’s his secret to looking so good?

Chosen as one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People in the World” for 5 years in a row ,(2000-2004), we’re honored to know that another one of the world’s most beautiful people uses Éminence. While on the set of X-Men – Hugh treated himself to some of our products.

For dads like Hugh who comes from a sunny climate like Australia’s, the SPF factor is extra important. Having been treated three times for skin cancer – Hugh is a big advocate for sun protection. Click here to learn more about our sun care products.

Balance image

During the Spring Season, we find our environment is transitioning in front of our eyes and yet everything is in balance.  We are between the two most extremes in weather (winter’s frost is on its way out as summer’s hot is on its way in) and the darkness of the night is becoming shorter allowing for more time in the lightness of day.  If you are like me, I find this is the perfect time of year to take a step back and find your balance.

The dark side of us is usually hidden as we put our best foot forward, but just like a shadow, it never leaves us completely. In fact, just as the Amazon jungle serves as mother earth’s hospital complete with beautiful herbal medicines and natural healing remedies, it’s also home to some of the world’s most deadliest creatures that can kill on first contact.

How then, has humanity managed to survive for ions on such a complex planet? In my personal opinion… I’d say, it’s through balance.

When there’s reasons to celebrate such as a wedding, anniversary, graduation, house warming and so forth, people’s energy levels hit the roof because there’s so much to be thankful for, not to mention how the positive emotions between a group of people multiplies and heightens in unison. But the same is to be said when there’s an illness in the family, a freak accident or a divorce, etc. Thus, having good days and bad days are inevitable. And just think! Even the animals in the jungles, rain forrest’s and oceans go through them too! Do they not experience sunny days as well as storms? (In every sense of the word)

How then, do we create balance in our lives? To me, balance is about allowing yourself to be in tune with your immediate environment, so that you can embrace every experience without getting thrown off your center.
Are you someone who does things nonchalantly without considering how your actions effects those around you – for better or for worst? Are you aloof? Do you turn a blind eye and pretend not to see something that is obvious? Being in tune with your environment helps one to choose their reactions, suggestions and behavior more responsibly. The number one reason why people get thrown off balance is due to a surprise – something they didn’t see coming. Perhaps hearing of a sudden death can cause devastation to someone because they weren’t prepared to receive the news. And on the contrary, a surprise birthday party can make one feel elated. But not everyday is cause for an extreme scenario. Sometimes, just the little things can throw someone off, like a negative insult or a positive compliment.

Find balance in your everyday life by embracing all of the good and bad that life has to offer because no matter what, both will always be there. It’s like the yin and the yang, or the sun and the moon. We live in a world of duality that we can’t change even if we tried to. But what we can do is master our own lives and understand where we fit in with all this. A shark knows its place in the ocean just as a bird knows its place in the sky. And both creatures have their freedoms as well as their dangers to look out for, just as we humans do. The key is not to neglect or ignore the darker side of life, but to allow every experience to make you stronger, wiser, kinder, and to help you elevate into a more balanced person who knows their place in the world. And trust me, every living thing on the planet has a necessary purpose, including you.

When you find yourself off balance, allow the Green Spa to be the place you escape to!

5 Dos And Don’ts For Sensitive Skin

Sensitive Skin-01

Do you suffer from sensitive skin? If you want to turn your “ouch” into “ahh”, you need a sensitive skin care routine customized for your delicate complexion. Follow these dos and don’ts for a quick guide to nurture your reactive skin:

Overclean. Dermatologists advise that you use gentle cleansers without strong detergents or fragrances to wash your face (WebMD). We recommend our Calm Skin Chamomile Cleanser which removes impurities without irritation or inflammation.

Overexfoliate. Instead of using a harsh facial scrub, one alternative is manual exfoliation. Take a dry face cloth (it must be dry, not wet!) and gently rub the surface of your skin for a mild exfoliating action. Another option is using the Rosehip & Maize Exfoliating Masque on a weekly basis. The maize flower exfoliates gently while the honey and zinc oxide ingredients soothe and calm the skin.

Use lukewarm water to wash. Hot water can be drying and harsh on the skin. Cold water, on the other hand, can cause broken capillaries. It’s best to avoid extremes in temperature and stick to tepid water for your skin care needs (Daily Mail).

Protect and moisturize your skin. Our Couperose-C Serum heals and calms inflamed skin while the Rosehip Whip Moisturizer is a great choice for soothing sensitive and reactive skin.

Treat your skin to a weekly masque. Our Calm Skin Arnica Masque detoxifies skin but also reduces the appearance of inflammation and the diminishes the look of redness on your complexion. Hear about the benefits of this masque straight from the pros – watch Victoria’s Secret model Lindsay Ellingson spotlight the product in this Allure magazine video.

4 Healing Herbs for Healthy Skin & Body

For centuries, herbs have been used for their medicinal, culinary and aromatic properties. Herbs add flavor to your favorite dish, garnish chic cocktails and they’re often essential ingredients in many over-the-counter medications.

When it comes to skin care, herbs also serve a powerful purpose – adding scent, function and healing elements to many of the beauty products you use every day.

Since herbs are such an important part of day to day life, we’ve picked 4 featured herbs that boast a variety of health and beauty benefits:

1. Lavender

There’s a reason you can find lavender in a variety of night care products. According to Elisa Kosonen, Best Health Magazine, “the oil in its pretty flowers gives the herb a fragrant scent that provides a calming, soothing and sedative effect.” In addition to its relaxing, sleep-inducing characteristics, lavender also has natural antiseptic properties and assists in stimulating circulation to support your body’s natural healing functions.

Featured products containing lavender: Lavender Age Corrective Concentrate and our Lavender Age Corrective Night Eye Cream.

2. Chamomile

Lavender isn’t the only herb that will help you ease into a comfortable state of calm – chamomile is another go-to herb if you’re looking to relax. In addition to its calming properties, chamomile has regenerative, soothing and repairing qualities that make this daisy-like herb an extremely effective skin care ingredient.

Featured products containing chamomile: Herbal Eye Makeup Remover, our Soothing Chamomile Tonique and our Calm Skin products – try our Calm Skin Starter Set.

3. Echinacea

Most commonly known as a favorite cold and flu remedy, echinacea has many other healing benefits that are worth taking advantage of. “Many studies support echinacea as an aid to enhance the immune system, reduce inflammation and provide antiviral benefits. It’s also particularly useful for lessening the symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections, sore throats and congestion” (Best Health).

This floral herb also has the ability to enhance the natural immunity of the skin, so when it comes to beauty products, Best Health magazine recommends our certified Biodynamic® Echinacea Recovery Cream from our Beyond Organic collection.

Featured products containing echinacea: Echinacea Recovery Cream & our Apricot Calendula Nourishing Cream.

4. Rosemary

Last, but definitely not least – rosemary is another must-have herb for health and well-being. From easing digestive issues, to lowering blood pressure, this nettle-like herb is a powerful healer (WebMD). It also holds anti-inflammatory and natural astringent properties and helps slow the aging process by eliminating free radical damage.

Featured products containing rosemary: Raspberry Eye Masque & our Calm Skin Products – try our Calm Skin Starter Set.

Healthy skin is a reflection of what you feed your body from the inside. Healing herbs like lavender, chamomile, echinacea and rosemary are just a few of the many ingredients that you can incorporate into your diet (and skin care routine) for a healthy body and beautiful skin.
