5 Simple Tips to Stay Cold and Flu Free This Winter

Cold and Flu-01

As the days get shorter and the air gets cooler, we tend to spend more time indoors – and that’s exactly where nasty germs and airborne illnesses thrive. The good news is that there are plenty of ways to stay healthy this cold and flu season.

Here are 5 simple (immune boosting and germ fighting) tips to stay cold and flu free this winter:

1.    Fight cold and flu viruses with Vitamin-C rich foods

Vitamin-C is our cold and flu fighting hero. Fresh, organic, fruits and veggies give us the nutrients we need to keep our immune system strong and healthy. Citrus fruits, berries, bell peppers and fresh green veggies (spinach, kale, broccoli, brussel sprouts) are all excellent sources of Vitamin-C. If you want to take your Vitamin-C intake to the next level, why not try some of our Vitamin-C rich products.

We recommend:

2.    Wash away cold and flu causing germs

One simple step that we can all take to stay germ free is to wash your hands often with soap and warm water. Can’t find a sink? Then try a hand cleanser. We recommend our Tea Tree & Mint Hand Cleanser – our chemical-free (and refreshing) alternative to a hand sanitizer.

3.    Get plenty of immune boosting rest and relaxation

Sleep allows our body, to rest, recover and recharge, so it’s important to make sure that we get enough of it. When it comes to keeping our immune system strong, reducing our stress levels is equally important as getting enough sleep. Stress can cause havoc on our immune system and can hinder our body’s natural defense mechanisms. What’s our favorite way to relax on a cool winter night? Add a few drops of our Apricot Body Oil to a warm bath and let the exotic, fruity aromas take you away to a state of ultimate relaxation.

4.    Make clean, fresh air a part of day

With colder temperatures and shorter daylight hours, it can be difficult to make outdoor activity a priority. Recycled air harbors cold and flu viruses so it’s important to expose ourselves to fresh, clean air as much as possible. If you can’t get outside, try opening your windows (on warmer winter days) to let fresh air in, and stale air out.

5.    Boost your immune system with exercise

We all know that exercise is good for us, but what many of us may don’t realize is that regular physical activity can help boost our immune system. When we exercise, we release toxins (through our sweat) and we also heat up our body temperature which in turn boosts our body’s natural virus-fighting ability.

Here’s to a happy and healthy winter!

Are These Makeup Mistakes Ruining your Skin?

Do you know what you’re doing when it comes to your daily makeup routine? We’re not expecting you to contour like Kim Kardashian, but it’s always good to know what you’re doing right (and wrong) in the name of beauty.

What if we told you that some of your everyday beauty habits could be doing your complexion more harm than good?

Below are 4 bad makeup habits to break right now:

1. Sleeping in your makeup

Just when you thought this was old news, it turns out that many of you are still snoozing in your makeup. In an interview with Refinery29, board-certified dermatologist and skin care professional Dennis Gross, MD, gives the skinny on why going to bed with a “full face on” is a huge no no:

“… Sleeping in makeup is “one of the biggest mistakes” a woman can make where her skin is concerned. Doing so can block pores, leaving oil trapped inside,” he adds. “This leads to bacteria build up, breakouts, and enlarged pores — which are many of the reasons women wear makeup in the first place”.

To make your night time makeup removal as effective as possible, DAYSPA Magazine recommends our Rice Milk 3 in 1 Cleansing Water – “… A gluten-free and soy-free vegan formula that cleanses and tones skin while removing makeup and hydrating the complexion and tightening pores”.

2. Exercising in your makeup

First of all, we commend you for making exercise a part of your day. But even though the gym is doing your body good, it might be doing the opposite for your skin. We’re not discouraging you from physical activity altogether, we’re simply asking you to wash your face before hitting the treadmill.

In an interview with Vogue Beauty, professional facialist Debbie Thomas explains that exercising in makeup can be just as bad as sleeping in it.

Your skin needs to breathe – during a good workout… Mix in sweat, heat and open pores and over time the skin will become blocked. Not everyone will get spots, but most will get blackheads coupled with dulling and possible uneven skin texture”.

3. Not using an SPF Moisturizer

To make it clear, makeup does NOT mean sun protection (unless you’re wearing a foundation or mineral powder that contains SPF). When you’re powdering your complexion in the mornings, make sure to apply an SPF moisturizer first to protect against sun damage. For coverage and protection all in one, try our Sun Defense Minerals. Paris-based makeup artist to the stars, Bruno Segni, also recommends our Cocoa Latte Tinted Moisturizer SPF 32:

“I really like Éminence products. They’re great quality. This works on most skin types and I love that it has a built-in SPFI really like Éminence products. They’re great quality. This works on most skin types and I love that it has a built-in SPF

4. Not checking expiry dates

When did you buy that clumpy mascara you’re still using? If you’re asking yourself that question, it’s probably time to buy a new one. We can’t stress enough how important it is to check expiry dates on cosmetics, especially on products that you’re using around your sensitive eye area. As a general rule, you should be purchasing new mascara every three months (Women’s Health). Any longer than that and it’s likely that your mascara will harbor a number of icky bacteria.

7 Unusual Ways To Use Facial Recovery Oil

7 Ways-01

We named it Facial Recovery Oil. They call it “Liquid Gold”. For adoring fans, this extraordinary golden oil is one of our most popular products and holds near-cult status. One such devotee, celebrated model and swimsuit designer Malia Jones, expresses the kind of passion that grips many of the oil’s users: “Eminence Organic Skin Care’s Facial Recovery Oil is my favorite product in the whole, wide world. If I had to choose just one, this would be it.” We agree and here’s why: facial oil benefits are more than just hydration. This oil, made from organic and Biodynamic® ingredients, solves a whole host of problems on your face and body.

Need to know more? Here are 7 ways to use Facial Recovery Oil that you might not have known about:

When applying Facial Recovery Oil, don’t forget the crucial neck area! The hydrating oils tone and moisturize with pure oils and sage leaf extract, giving the delicate skin in this area a plumped up glow. Regular use directly affects the visible signs of aging for the neck, especially fine lines and wrinkles. Dermascope recently spotlighted the oil in its anti-aging feature “The Future 40”.

Also known as “chicken skin”, these unsightly bumps are hardened protein which builds up in hair follicles often in the arm area (XOJane). A lack of sebum and fatty acids cause these protein plugs which explains why liberal use of Facial Recovery Oil seems to melt the bumps away.

Did you know that Facial Recovery Oil especially benefits the eye area? Key ingredients reduce puffiness under the eye and hydrate intensely. Since there are less oil glands around the eyes, the oil delivers the extra moisture needed in this area prone to dryness.

Drop the petroleum-based chapstick and soothe chapped lips with Facial Recovery Oil. With winter winds chafing your lips, the oil relieves your pucker with a single drop. Afterwards, add a slick of shimmering color with our Organic Kiss Lip Gloss.

We discovered this oil three years ago and can’t imagine life without it.

After applying facial oil to your complexion, why not rub the remaining traces into your cuticles as well? Soften irritated dry cuticles and ensure your nails stay hydrated, healthy and strong.

Vitamin E and herbal ingredients in Facial Recovery Oil target the look of uneven skin tone on your cheeks. With regular use, skin appears smoother, more even, and refreshed.  Beauty editors at The Fashion Spot testify, “We discovered this oil three years ago and can’t imagine life without it.

For skin issues like stretch marks and surgical scars, intense moisture from Facial Recovery Oil increases elasticity and improves the look of skin. Also, a key ingredient, clary sage oil, has anti-inflammatory and healing properties for the skin – important qualities when hydrating damaged skin. (OrganicFacts.com).
