DIY: Garbage Disposal Refreshers

Does your garbage disposal need a little refreshing? With everything that goes into the disposal, odds are that odors could be accumulating in there. Try this simple DIY recipe to make your own garbage disposal refreshers to help freshen, clean, and deodorize your garbage disposal.

 

Ingredients: 

2 cups baking soda

1 cup salt

1/2 cup water

1/3 cup liquid castile soap (any scent)

30 drops Lemon essential oil

 

Editor’s note: Liquid castile soap is a vegetable-based soap commonly found in health food stores. Dr. Bronner’s is a popular one. Look for unscented.

 

Directions:

1. Combine baking soda and salt into bowl.

2.  Add castile soap and essential oil into mixture.

3. Add water 1 tablespoon at a time while stirring with hands until it forms into the consistency of “damp sand”. It should stay together when you press it together. If you add too much water just add some more baking soda and salt until the consistency is right.

4. Grab a tablespoon measurement device and scoop packed spoonfuls onto parchment paper.

5. Once the mixture has been scooped, let dry for 24 hours or until they are hard. One batch should make about 36 garbage disposal refreshers.

6. Put into glass jar and use the next time you do dishes! Just put 1-3 refreshers into the garbage disposal and turn it on. You will immediately smell the refreshing Lemon essential oil.

4 Natural Ways To Detox Your Skin Post-Summer

4 Ways To Make Your Summer Glow Last

But just because some of the summertime perks are coming to a end, it doesn’t mean that you have to say adieu to all things summer. While you’re ok with trading cute sandals for stylish fall boots, you’re not down with giving up your sun-kissed skin. And the good news is, you don’t have to.

Below are 4 sun-safe ways to stay naturally radiant the whole year through:

1. APPLY TINTED MOISTURIZER ON THE DAILY
We get it, applying several layers of product in the mornings can be daunting – that’s why tinted moisturizers are the way to go. DIY: Lip Gloss

Commercial lip gloss can contain artificial colors and fragrances which can be toxic to your health. Take the worry out of your lip gloss by making your own! These lip gloss sticks are easy and fun to make and can be customized with your favorite color and essential oils.

 

Ingredients:
1 gram white beeswax
3 grams Shea butter (or virgin coconut oil)
2 grams jojoba oil (or grape seed, Fractionated Coconut, or almond oil)
10 grams castor oil
1 gram vitamin E
7 drops of your favorite essential oil
Pigment, such as organic beet root powder or mineral makeup

 

Note: this is enough to fill two standard lip gloss tubes. You can find empty lip gloss tubes online and at local beauty stores.

 

Directions:
  1. Place all ingredients, except for essential oil, into a glass jar.
  2. Place jar in a saucepan with 1-1.5 inches of boiling water.
  3. Once melted, remove and let cool for 2 minutes.
  4. Add essential oils.

Note:

Start with a little and add more until you get desired color.

For color, add pigment and stir until combined.

Using a dropper, transfer into the lip gloss containers. If it starts to get too thick, place glass jar back in warm water to melt.

You’re done! Enjoy your moisturizing and natural lip gloss!
