4 Ways To Make Your Summer Glow Last

summerglowDare we say it? Summer is coming to an end, and that means saying goodbye to sunlit evenings, breezy beach days and picnics in the park. But just because some of the summertime perks are coming to a end, it doesn’t mean that you have to say adieu to all things summer. While you’re ok with trading cute sandals for stylish fall boots, you’re not down with giving up your sun-kissed skin. And the good news is, you don’t have to.

Below are 4 sun-safe ways to stay naturally radiant the whole year through:

1. APPLY TINTED MOISTURIZER ON THE DAILY
We get it, applying several layers of product in the mornings can be daunting – that’s why tinted moisturizers are the way to go. Not only do they deliver lightweight sheer coverage, Éminence tinted moisturizers also provide SPF 25 sun protection and add an extra layer of hydration to your skin. LNE Magazine recommends our Cocoa Latte Tinted Moisturizer which “softens and protects skin with an antioxidant-rich non-clogging moisturizer”. This daily beauty staple is available in two additional shades (Vanilla Latte & Caramel Latte) so you can pick your level of post-summer glow.

2. EAT YOUR WAY TO A RADIANT COMPLETION
Autumn harvest is upon us and that means tons of nutritious fruits and veggies for the taking.

A recent study in the American Journal of Public Health found that “eating more fruit and vegetables can change skin tone, lending it a healthier glow, within a matter of weeks” (Medical News Today).

How is this change in skin tone possible? Apparently it all comes down to carotenoids, orangy-red pigments that give fruits and vegetables like carrots, yams and squash varieties their colour. Even if you’re not completely sold on this theory, it’s definitely worth a try. You’ve got nothing to lose – even if your skin doesn’t change in shade, eating antioxidant and nutrient-rich fruits and veggies will do wonderful things for your skin and health.

3. INVEST IN A NATURAL BRONZER
There’s a fake tan gone wrong and then there’s a real tan gone wrong (a.k.a. a burn). The latter is more dangerous for your skin, but both are equally unappealing. To give your skin a post-summer glow the natural way, Vancouver Magazine’s Amanda Ross suggests our Sun Defense Minerals SPF 30 – “the darker shades can be used as a bronzer—but I stick to the lighter side for a wholly natural, unblemished finish”. According to Amanda, “this magic wand is the holy grail of beauty goods… it works as a completely natural mineral-based sunscreen, but I also use it as a powder to give that flawless look that only mineral-based make-up really seems to achieve”.

Application tip: Once you’ve used your Éminence Tinted Moisturizer, dust your skin with your choice of Sun Defense Minerals. Apply it to your face as well as other exposed regions like your neck and chest area. And finally, for extra definition, we suggest contouring around your cheek area with one of our Mineral Illuminators (Chai Berry Glow or Mocha Berry Bronzer) for a sheer, sun-kissed glow that lasts.

4. ADD A STIMULATING MASQUE TO YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE
To bring out your inner glow – try one of our stimulating masques. A hot masque like our Eight Greens Phyto Masque (HOT) uses paprika to produce a
natural, healthy and rosy glow. The antioxidant and vitamin-rich ingredients work together to bring out the look of radiance in your skin. If you have sensitive skin (or if spicy simply isn’t your thing), then you can try mixing our Eight Greens Phyto Masque (HOT) with another complementary masque like our Calm Skin Arnica Masque. This is a good way to bring down the heat factor a few notches, but still receive the glow-y benefits.

Lemon and Orange Granitas

granitasblog
Share this cool and creative treat this summer at your next backyard bash.

Ingredients:

6 large lemons or 4 medium oranges

Sugar/honey to taste

4 cups water

2–4 drops Lemon or Wild Orange essential oil

Directions:

Clean and wash fruit. Cut off the top quarter and slice a thin bevel off the bottom of the fruit, so they stand up straight.

Using a grapefruit knife, carefully remove and save the flesh and juice; be careful not to cut through the bottom. Stand the rinds on a plate or cookie sheet and freeze until solid.

Combine scooped out flesh and juice with essential oil in a food processor or blender; pulse until mostly pureed then press mixture through a fine-mesh strainer.

Stir in water; add sugar or honey one tablespoon at a time to taste. Pour mixture into large roasting pan or baking dish, large enough that the liquid isn’t more than one inch deep.

Freeze for 1–3 hours. Remove mixture from freezer every hour and scrape with two forks to break up ice.

When the granita is frozen, rake until glittery. Scoop into frozen lemon or orange shells and serve.

6 Summer Travel Tips

6SummerTravelTips

In the words of George Gershwin, it’s summertime and the livin’s easy. Except, that is, if you’re embarking on the not-so-easy ordeal of vacation travel. Feel your blood pressure rising as you begin your summertime itinerary? Here are six travel tips to regain that relaxed vibe even when you’re jetting off to exotic locales:

1. ROLL DON’T FOLD
If the clothes you pack into your luggage look like complicated fabric origami, you’re doing it wrong! The best way to prevent wrinkles is to roll, not fold, your clothes. After all, no folds = no lines creased into the fabric. Here’s a bonus on this travel packing tip: Rolls of clothing are also efficient on space so you’re not only travelling wrinkle-free, you’re also maximizing the amount of clothes you’re taking. (Life Hacker).

2. PACK STARTER SETS
There’s nothing more messy than squirting all your regular-sized toiletries into mini bottles. And why bother when you can pack an Éminence starter set which comes in travel size containers? Just throw in one of these sleek travel bags pre-filled with your favorite skin routine and you are set to go.

3. MASQUE & MOISTURIZE
Air travel tip: cabin air is extremely drying on the skin so make sure that you’re hydrating as soon as you step on that plane. Drink lots of water and moisturize your skin deeply. We recommend our rich Linden Calendula Treatment which can be used as a full masque while onboard or left on as a heavy moisturizer. Either way, this treatment protects your complexion from the dehydrating effects of air travel.

4.USE HIDDEN SPACE
One of our favorite travel tips and tricks is to use the empty space inside your packed shoes. Stuff a couple of rolled up socks or perhaps a tube of shampoo – any small sized items can be slipped into your
shoes to maximize your total packing space. Bonus tip: Put your shoes into an old hotel shower cap first to keep the inside of your luggage clean (Cosmopolitan).

summertravelblot5. DE-SHINE YOUR FACE
No time to squeeze into the airplane washroom for a last-minute grooming session? Pack our Green Tea & Hemp Blotting Tissues to remove the oil from your face without even getting up from your seat. With these handy blotting tissues, you can arrive at your destination, looking polished and feeling refreshed.

summertravelsdm6. BRUSH ON YOUR TAN
If you’re landing at a sunny locale, add a bit of instant color (and protect your skin) with a sweep of our Sun Defense Minerals. Conveniently packaged with its own brush, this bronzer just needs a quick click to deliver a dose of natural mineral powder. In slim packaging and easy to use, our Sun Defense Minerals are the perfect solution for travel.

6 On-the-Go Makeup Essentials

6onthegomakeup

If you’re anything like us, you would need rolling luggage to carry all of your makeup with you on-the-go. Instead of playing the constant traveler, try paring your makeup bag down to these six essential items:

Powder Foundation + Travel Brush: Powder foundation (like PurePressed Base or Amazing Base) is extremely versatile and can be used as a foundation, concealer or even finishing powder. Ours even contain SPF to protect from the sun. Keep the inside of your bag clean by bringing a travel foundation brush that’s either retractable or can be filled with the loose powder.

Cream Blush: A cream blush stick makes reapplication easy. You can apply it with your finger, so there’s no need for a blush brush!

One or Two Lip Products: We know how easy it is to carry a collection of lip products for every occasion, but that can weigh down your bag. Lighten the load by only bringing the lipstick or lip gloss used in your makeup look that day, and swap out the products each day or so.

Liquid Eye Shadow: If you usually touch up your eye shadow midday, toss a creamy, liquid eye shadow in your bag. Use the built-in brush for easy application and to cut down on the number of brushes you have to carry.

Brown Eyeliner: A brown eye pencil can be used in a number of different ways. Apply it over your current eyeliner (black or brown) to touch up your look after a long day work or use it as an eyebrow pencil to define your brows before you go out.

Want to know what Jane carries in her tote? Here are the products she always has in her bag during the summer:

Refill-Me Refillable Loose Powder Brush filled with Amazing Matte Loose Finish Powder
Clarity In Touch Cream Blush
Champagne Eye Shere Liquid Eye Shadow
Nectar PureGloss Lip Gloss

5 Products for Beach-ready Makeup

summermakeup
When you’re heading to the shore, it’s important to have makeup that is versatile and fits in beach bag. You want to look natural, as if you aren’t wearing any makeup, but still feel confident that you look your best. For an effortless no makeup, makeup look, all you need is five products, a couple of brushes/tools and your fingers:

Peaches-Cream-1-232x300
Mineral Foundation
(Alternate Uses: Concealer and SPF)
Great mineral foundations, like our PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation, can be used as both a foundation and a concealer. It also contains broad spectrum SPF to protect you from harmful UV rays and is water resistant for up to 40 minutes!

Peach Eye Shadow & Cream Eye Shadow
(Alternate Uses: Highlighter, Blush and Lip Color)
Select a peach and a cream eye shadow with a little shimmer (we suggest our PurePressed Eye Shadow in Peach Sherbet and Cream). You can use the two colors in multiple ways; in addition to adding color to your eye lids, they quadruple as a highlighter, blush and lip color!.

Pencil Eyeliner
(Alternate Use: Brow Pencil)
A natural brown eyeliner, like our Basic Brown Eye Pencil, is great for lining your eyes, but if you’re a brunette, you could also get away with using it as an eyebrow pencil. If you have lighter hair, we recommend using a lighter colored eyeliner, like taupe.

 Lip Balm
(Alternate Use: SPF)
Lip Balm is the best finishing touch to any look. It moisturizes your lips for a supple pout, and if you use our LipDrink Lip Balm with SPF 15, you also get the added bonus of sun protection!

Follow the below steps to learn how to get the perfect, natural beach makeup look in 10 easy steps:

Peaches-Cream-2-242x300

  1. First, use your Retractable Handi Brush to apply your foundation.
  2. Then, use a Flocked Sponge to layer foundation over any areas that may need a little extra concealing.
  3. Using your ring finger apply the cream eye shadow to the lid of your eye and as a highlighter on your brow bone.
  4. Next, use your finger again to apply the peach shade to the outer corners of your eyes and into the crease.
  5. Starting from the inner corner of your eye and working your way out to a slight wing, line your upper lash line with your Brown Eye Pencil.
  6. Also, use the eye pencil to define your brows by filling in your eyebrows using small, hair-like strokes.
  7. With your index and middle finger, lightly swipe the cream eye shadow on your cheek bone as a highlighter.
  8. Then, with the same two fingers, apply the peach shade to the apples of your cheek with light strokes.
  9. Dab the peach shade onto your lips using your middle finger for a soft pop of color.
  10. Finish your look with a swipe of lip balm on your lips.
