Sheila Marie Brody
Sheila Brody was born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn to a hard working Immigrant family. Sheila started working at a young age of 14 for a local flower shop on Third Avenue. There, Sheila developed her creative skills allowing her to quickly rise to floral designer as a young teen. During her College years, she had to change career paths due to severe allergic reactions to the flowers.
She quickly found work as a receptionist in a local Hair Salon and quickly moved up to managing the business alongside the owner. At the young age of 21, with the support of her strong family, friends and clients, Sheila became a New York State board certified Licensed Massage Therapist. On her 22nd Birthday, she opened her first business with the Owner of the salon she had managed for the past several years.
In a short period of time, she bought out both partners in the business and by the age of 24 she used her design skills, spa management experience and expertise in the service industry to grow her company into what is now “The Green Spa & Wellness Center,” a three floor luxury wellness center that has recently been named #1 Wellness Center in America by Day Spa.
In 2007, she designed, contracted and built the first Green eco-friendly building in the neighborhood along with the first Green Spa in New York City. Her selection of eco-friendly materials included enhancing the building with a soy roof, recycled denim jean insulation inside the walls, 0 voc paints/stains, sustainable tin ceilings, eco friendly design/decor and products that attracts clients from all over the city.
Over her career, she has become a Licensed Massage Therapist, a Master Feng Shui Practitioner, a strong mentor and leader to her team and her community. She has received awards from the MWBE Minority & Women In Business in New York. She graduated from The Swedish Institute with an Associates degree in Allied Health Science, Studied in Kingsborough and The College of Staten Island and graduated from The Stern School of Business’s SBS Certification in the city of New York.
The Third Avenue Merchants named her as the 2008 Pioneer of the Year; received the first Third Avenue green festival award in 2009; and also received the honor of Woman of The Year 2012 by NYS Brooklyn Women's Group and in 2014 Top women in business award. Maureen Brody is co-founder of the Green Spa and Wellness Center in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. She is a pioneer & passionate in providing eco friendly services and products in a unique manner which exceeds guest needs. Her knowledge for business savvy marketing and management both stem from her work and educational history. She is a graduate of Baruch College with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration, with a major in Business Marketing and minor in writing. In addition, she has a second degree in Applied Science from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City.
Brody’s work history in Business Management as well as Operations and Merchandise Management led to her passion for merchandising products to tell a story that relates to the consumer and development of incentive programs for her team both led to an increase in sales and in motivation. Later, Maureen opened a retail boutique in her hometown of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. She specialized in sourcing unique merchandise that was exclusive to her store and designed her own merchandise. Her exclusive, one of a kind pieces, were sold in her boutique to local consumers who appreciated unique designs.
Brody later joined her family in a growing business and assisted in the undergoing an eco friendly green building transformation and expansion into what is now the Green Spa & Wellness Center. This is a Wellness Center that specializes in organic, vegan and all natural products in an eco friendly green building that brings wellness to its’ guests, both inside and out. Maureen’s responsibilities since 2004 have included sourcing unique natural products, developing and maintaining the website representing brand image, staff development and management, menu development and design, developing and planning community wellness workshops, leading charity events and fundraising, merchandising, marketing and business management.
Since 2004, Brody is most proud to have led the Green Spa & Wellness Center in numerous local charity events, donations and fundraising in the community. Looking forward, Brody is dedicated to The Green Spa & Wellness Center’s growth and expansion within the community all the while providing unique & eco-friendly products & services to guests who chose to join her in making a difference in today’s world!
