FINDING YOUR BALANCE

During the Spring Season, we find our environment is transitioning in front of our eyes and yet everything is in balance.  We are between the two most extremes in weather (winter’s frost is on its way out as summer’s hot is on its way in) and the darkness of the night is becoming shorter allowing for more time in the lightness of day.  If you are like me, I find this is the perfect time of year to take a step back and find your balance.

The dark side of us is usually hidden as we put our best foot forward, but just like a shadow, it never leaves us completely. In fact, just as the Amazon jungle serves as mother earth’s hospital complete with beautiful herbal medicines and natural healing remedies, it’s also home to some of the world’s most deadliest creatures that can kill on first contact.

How then, has humanity managed to survive for ions on such a complex planet? In my personal opinion… I’d say, it’s through balance.

When there’s reasons to celebrate such as a wedding, anniversary, graduation, house warming and so forth, people’s energy levels hit the roof because there’s so much to be thankful for, not to mention how the positive emotions between a group of people multiplies and heightens in unison. But the same is to be said when there’s an illness in the family, a freak accident or a divorce, etc. Thus, having good days and bad days are inevitable. And just think! Even the animals in the jungles, rain forrest’s and oceans go through them too! Do they not experience sunny days as well as storms? (In every sense of the word)

How then, do we create balance in our lives? To me, balance is about allowing yourself to be in tune with your immediate environment, so that you can embrace every experience without getting thrown off your center.
Are you someone who does things nonchalantly without considering how your actions effects those around you – for better or for worst? Are you aloof? Do you turn a blind eye and pretend not to see something that is obvious? Being in tune with your environment helps one to choose their reactions, suggestions and behavior more responsibly. The number one reason why people get thrown off balance is due to a surprise – something they didn’t see coming. Perhaps hearing of a sudden death can cause devastation to someone because they weren’t prepared to receive the news. And on the contrary, a surprise birthday party can make one feel elated. But not everyday is cause for an extreme scenario. Sometimes, just the little things can throw someone off, like a negative insult or a positive compliment.

Find balance in your everyday life by embracing all of the good and bad that life has to offer because no matter what, both will always be there. It’s like the yin and the yang, or the sun and the moon. We live in a world of duality that we can’t change even if we tried to. But what we can do is master our own lives and understand where we fit in with all this. A shark knows its place in the ocean just as a bird knows its place in the sky. And both creatures have their freedoms as well as their dangers to look out for, just as we humans do. The key is not to neglect or ignore the darker side of life, but to allow every experience to make you stronger, wiser, kinder, and to help you elevate into a more balanced person who knows their place in the world. And trust me, every living thing on the planet has a necessary purpose, including you.
