The Green Spa’s Guide To Summer Lovin: SPF-style

It’s that time of year where snowflakes and the polar vortex seemed like they never happened. But what comes extra exposure to the sun’s rays is the threat of premature aging and skin cancer. I know to sounds harsh but thousands of people are diagnosed in the US with skin cancer every day. And most people receive the most sun damage in their first 18 years of life. We want you to enjoy the sun safely. In fact, the sun is your most valuable resource for Vitamin D. If you sit in the sun without sunscreen for 10 minutes you receive all the Vitamin D you need for the day and then some.

After those SPF-free ten minutes, being out in the sun isn’t an issue if you use SPF 15-30. Make sure the bottle is labeled ‘broad spectrum’ to protect you from both UVB and UVA rays. Each year buy new sun screen. Despite the printed expiration date, the ingredients that protect you from harmful rays lose their effectiveness over a year. Always spring for a new bottle.
